Chinese style Beef Fried Rice

20111102-192803.jpg

There is only so many weeknight meals that you can just have steak and salad. Tonight I couldn’t face it.

So instead I took my piece of steak and copped it up into tiny pieces, fried it off in some sesame oil until crispy, then finished it with some Chinese cooking wine and soy.

Then added it to some rice with fresh corn, peas, onion and crispy speck.

It may not look that attractive, but it tastes really good…. Wait…. let me have another bite…… REALLY GOOD.

Wet weather baking

20111029-084802.jpg

I think there is something about wet weather that just makes me want to bake.

Especially late at night, it’s almost like rebelling – What could I do that seems ridiculous?

Bake at midnight.

A simple white loaf and a fruit loaf.

Crumpets

20111028-214851.jpg

Sitting on the couch on a Friday night, I had the sudden urge to make Crumpets.

They are the ultimate comfort food.
Best served with butter and honey.

One thing is never enough, I have just started on two different types of bread.

Will post pics later.

Apple Tea Cake

20111022-210345.jpg

This is a Donna Hay recipe for Apple and Cinnamon Tea Cake.

It turned out really well, I like how this recipe uses apple half’s rather than chopped bits or puree. They caramelise as the cake cooks, to turn in to little sweet pockets of deliciousness.

Served with tea and cream.

Bake night

Thursday nights have now become giant masterchef style bake nights.

Tonight- Orange and Poppyseed mini cupcakes with Lemon cream cheese icing (some big ones as well) and Raspberry spiked chocolate brownies.

All packaged beautifully to be shipped off to offices around Melbourne.

Friday treats for everyone!

I’m exhausted.

Pavlova

20111016-085430.jpg

The classic pavlova, as requested by our visiting pom.

I used Donna Hay’s recipe which always works 100%. The things which make a Pav so awesome is the cream and fruit choices.

It has to be super rich, thick, triple cream and mango, strawberries, blueberries and passionfruit.

None of this kiwi shit.

Birthday cake

20111016-085243.jpg

My sweet sister made my birthday cake this year.
It a variation on Nigella’s chocolate trifle, with layers of cake, cherries and creme patisserie. An of course, lots
of booze.
